Colours: RGB and RGBA notations

In addition to the hexadecimal notation, programmers sometimes use notations known as RGB (acronym for Red Green Blue) and RGBA (acronym for Red Green Blue Alpha). RGB values are written in decimal notation as integers between 0 and 255. Alpha is a number between (and including) 0 and 1, and represents the degree of opacity (or transparency) of the colour.

Opaque figures drawn on top of other ones will hide them; partially transparent ones will let the colour of those below them be seen through as illustrated by the following example.
